Since 2001, IGBC’s Green Building Congress has been a key driver for advancing the Indian green building movement. This event brings together national and international stakeholders to exchange, showcase, and acquire insights into the latest and emerging green building technologies, fostering new partnerships. The 21st edition of this flagship event, the Green Building Congress 2023, took place from November 23 to 25, 2023, at the Chennai Trade Centre (CTC) in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

Each of these recognized projects boasts unique sustainability features, including rainwater harvesting, solar PV installations, optimized daylighting, ventilation systems, water-efficient fixtures, and thoughtful landscaping. These sustainability features collectively demonstrate a holistic approach to environmentally responsible construction, emphasizing resource efficiency, renewable energy adoption, and a commitment to creating spaces that are both eco-friendly and conducive to the well-being of occupants.

Category 1: Commercial Buildings

The IGBC Green New Buildings rating system is mainly made for new buildings. This includes places like offices, IT parks, banks, shopping malls, hotels, airports, stadiums, convention centres, libraries, museums, etc.

Project 1 – Elan Epic, Sector – 70, Gurugram

This project has been awarded an IGBC Gold Rating, acknowledging its outstanding engineering marvel. The project is located in sector – 70, Gurugram. The Key sustainable features included:

  • Utilization of SRI Tiles and Solar Shading to mitigate the Heat Island Effect,
  • A 129 cu.mts Rainwater Harvesting system facilitating direct Groundwater Recharge,
  • Water Efficient Fixtures leading to a 38% reduction in water usage,
  • Water Sub-metering for precise monitoring, installation of a 112 kg/Day Organic Waste Converter machine,
  • On-site solar PV with an 88 kWp capacity,
  • Energy Sub-meters for monitoring energy usage,
  • Incorporation of Green Certified and Sustainable Building Materials.

Project 2: BPTP Capital City

This project has attained the esteemed IGBC Platinum Rating, showcasing its remarkable expertise in construction and design. Situated in sector – 94, Noida. The project boasts key green features, including:

  • The reduction of outdoor lighting pollution, provision of Electric Charging Facilities for EV Vehicles
  • 100% Rainwater harvesting, an impressive 82.65% reduction in water usage through Water Efficient Fixtures
  • Meticulous sub-metering via Water Meters for effective monitoring of water usage, a comprehensive approach to energy usage monitoring through the combination of sub-metering and Building Management System (BMS)
  • Installation of a 197.7 kg/Day Organic Waste Converter (OWC) machine achieving 100% waste treatment
  • Incorporation of Green Certified Building Materials and Sustainable Materials
  • Ensuring 100% outdoor views from the interior of regularly occupied spaces

Project 3: Omaxe - Multi-Level Car Parking

Situated in Chandni Chowk, New Delhi, this project earned the prestigious IGBC Platinum Rating, emphasizing its exceptional skills in construction and design. Key environmentally friendly features include:

  • Vertical Gardening on three fronts of the elevation with Terrace Gardening
  • A strategic blend of Heat Reflective Paint and Vegetation to diminish Heat Islanding on the roof
  • 100% Rainwater harvesting
  • A 30.2% reduction in Water Usage through Water Efficient Fixtures
  • Meticulous Submetering using Water Meters for effective monitoring of water usage, a comprehensive approach to energy usage monitoring through the combination of Submetering and Building Management System (BMS)
  • Installation of a 600 kg/Day Organic Waste Converter (OWC) machine ensuring 100% waste treatment
  • Incorporation of Green Certified Building Materials as well as Sustainable Materials.

Category 2: Affordable Housing

The Green Affordable Housing Rating is for housing projects with a carpet area up to 60 sq m per dwelling unit in big cities and 90 sq m per dwelling unit in smaller cities. This rating system by IGBC is meant for assessing new and significant renovations of affordable multi-dwelling residential buildings or units.

Project 4: Conscient - Habitat Residences

GreenTree happily got an award for an IGBC Platinum Rated project, ‘Conscient - Habitat Residencies’. This award is like a crown for us because it shows the quality of work GreenTree does. The project is situated in sector 78, Faridabad. The project has some really good qualities that show how much they care about doing things the right way.

  • 100% of the roof area has been contributed to reduce the heat islanding effect in the project.
  • 75% of illuminance is achieved through daylighting by the implementation of Passive Architectural Features.
  • 26% reduction in water usage through water-efficient Fixtures.
  • 100% of Rainwater is been Harvested and recharged on site with 304.5 KLD Harvesting Capacity.
  • 100% of the STP-treated water is been used for Landscaping and Flushing.
  • Sub metering using Water Meters to help monitor Water Usage.
  • BEE 5-star rated Air Conditioning Systems.
  • 40kWp of On-site Renewable Energy System installed to cater to 75% of the Common area load.
  • Use of Green Certified Products and Sustainable Building Materials.
  • 40% of the Materials Have Recycled content.
  • 86% of the Waste Generated on site has been Diverted or Reused.
  • 840 kg/Day OWC machine installed with 90.5% waste treated

Category 3: Green Homes

GBC Green Homes is the first rating program developed in India, exclusively for the residential sector. IGBC Green Homes Rating System is a measurement system designed for rating new and major renovations of residential buildings which are broadly classified into two construction types: Individual residential units and Multi-dwelling residential units.

Project 5: CRC Sublimis

Elegantly positioned in Sector-1, Noida Extension, Greater Noida, this structure proudly claims its position as an IGBC Gold-rated masterpiece in the Green Homes category. Greentree has earned numerous appreciation for this outstanding project, showcasing the incorporation of features essential for recognition. Some of the prominent features are:

  • 75% of illuminance is achieved through daylighting by the implementation of Passive Architectural Features
  • 35% reduction in water usage through water-efficient Fixtures
  • 30% of the site is Covered with Landscape
  • 100% of Rainwater is been Harvested and recharged on-site with 226.57 cum Harvesting Capacity
  • 95% of the Waste Water has been reused on site

Project 6: Central Park, Aqua Front Towers

GreenTree's strong commitment has earned this project a valuable gold rating certificate from IGBC. This recognition highlights the project's dedication to being sustainable and environmentally friendly. The key green features that contributed to this achievement include:

  • Dedicating 100% of the roof area to reduce the heat islanding effect
  • Achieving 50% of illuminance through the strategic implementation of Passive Architectural Features
  • Ensuring 80% of exterior openings with PF > 0.5, installing CO sensors throughout the premises
  • Providing EV-charging facilities for 30% of the parking spaces.

Additionally, the project showcases a remarkable 35% reduction in water usage through the incorporation of water-efficient fixtures, while 100% of rainwater is meticulously harvested and recharged on-site, boasting an impressive capacity of 1171.6 cubic meters. These features, among others, exemplify GreenTree's commitment to sustainable practices and environmental excellence.

Project 7: Metro Niketan, DMRC

This project got the prestigious IGBC Gold Rating, recognizing its outstanding engineering skills. It's located in sector – 50, Noida, and what makes it special are its remarkable green features. Notably, it achieved an impressive 94% and 89% reduction in the Heat Islanding Effect on-site for Non-Roof and Roof areas respectively. The project also excels in water management, capturing 100% of rainwater discharge with a substantial 123 cubic meters harvested and realizing a notable 44.9% reduction in water usage through the installation of water-efficient fixtures.

Additionally, the project demonstrates a commitment to sustainability by reusing 100% of treated wastewater on-site. With 24.8% of the site dedicated to landscaping, precision water monitoring through sub-metering using Water Meters, implementation of BEE 5-star rated air conditioning systems, and the use of Green Certified Products and Sustainable Building Materials, this project sets a high standard for environmentally conscious and innovative development.

Category 4: Existing Buildings

The IGBC Existing Buildings O&M rating system can be used for all kinds of non-residential buildings like offices, IT Parks, BPOs, shopping malls, hotels, hospitals, airports, banks, etc. To be eligible for certification under this rating, buildings need to be 80% occupied (in terms of carpet area) and in operation for at least 1 year.

Project 8: Supervisors Training Centre

Nestled in the heart of Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow, this project boasts key green features that underscore its commitment to sustainability. Notably, it achieves a significant 50% reduction in water usage through the strategic installation of water-efficient fixtures. Emphasizing water conservation further, the project ensures the harvesting of 100% of captured rainwater.

The project addresses the Heat Islanding Effect comprehensively by reducing it entirely through on-site roof solutions. Further enhancing its environmental conscientiousness, the project adopts an Operation and Maintenance Methodology to guarantee the optimal performance of its equipment. An extraordinary commitment to water resource management is showcased as 100% of treated wastewater is efficiently reused on-site, contributing to the project's overall sustainability goals.

Category 5: Green MRTS

The IGBC Green MRTS rating system is a voluntary and agreement-based program. It was created with the help of the IGBC Green MRTS Steering Committee. The rating covers Elevated stations, Underground stations, At grade stations, and Viaduct/Tunnel in Metro Rail systems.

Project 9: MMRDA Mumbai Metro -7

Having achieved an esteemed IGBC Platinum rating, this state-of-the-art transportation hub in Mumbai emerges as a standout among its seven transformed stations. These stations, including Aarey, Magathane, Rashtriya Udyan, Devipada, Kurar, Akurli, Poisar, and Ovaripada, now embody green innovation. These stations now represent green innovation and come with important sustainable features. The hub connects well with different transportation modes, making travel in the city better and more sustainable.

To fight pollution, the hub uses CNG-based fuel vehicles for different types of transport, helping the environment. It's designed with the convenience of commuters in mind, using water-efficient fixtures to reduce water usage by more than 30%. The station also keeps a close eye on water usage with precision through water sub-metering. The hub cares about the environment in its infrastructure, using eco-friendly refrigerants and advanced fire suppression systems. The materials used in the building are certified green and sustainable, showing a responsible approach to the environment.

Furthermore, the hub supports local sustainability by using over 40% locally available building materials, supporting the local economy and reducing the impact of transporting materials from far away. In summary, this transportation hub not only focuses on making travel easy but also shows a strong commitment to eco-friendly practices and making the city more sustainable.

Category 6: Green Railway Stations

The main goal of the rating is to encourage the use of green practices, which helps lessen the harmful effects on the environment caused by station operation and maintenance. It also aims to improve the overall experience for commuters at the station. The Green Railway Stations rating system is mainly made for existing Indian railway stations.

Project 10: Mumbai Central Railway Station

A big achievement for GreenTree was getting an award for Mumbai Central Railway Station. The station got a Gold Certification from IGBC, showing how well it's doing in terms of being sustainable and good for the environment.

It became plastic-free in October 2019 and focuses on commuter comfort with well-lit paths, a dedicated drop-off zone, and measures against street vendors. The station has a 26% green area that helps the environment.

Mumbai Central is also into renewable energy, having a rooftop solar plant generating a lot of power. It's careful with water too, treating over 95% of its wastewater. As a major station in Mumbai, it provides facilities like Wi-Fi, ticket vending machines, CCTV, a food court, medical services, and more. Mumbai Central is not just about trains; it's about being green, sustainable, and caring for passengers.
