Driving Energy Efficiency: Launch of DSM Measures in Tripura

Driving Energy Efficiency: Launch of DSM Measures in Tripura

Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL), in collaboration with the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and GreenTree Global, has successfully launched Demand Side Management (DSM) measures to transform the state’s energy consumption patterns. The launch, held at Pragna Bhawan in Agartala under the 'Capacity Building of DISCOMs' program, marks a significant step in Tripura’s journey toward enhanced energy efficiency. The event gathered key government officials, industry experts, and stakeholders, emphasizing the importance of this initiative.

With over 100+ attendees, the ceremony highlighted the collaborative effort behind the DSM rollout. Participants included representatives from TSECL, Tripura State Designated Agency (SDA), various state government departments, industry leaders, and other key stakeholders. The launch marked the implementation of Home Energy Management Systems (HEMS) and Energy-Efficient municipal pumps across the state, promoting Tripura's commitment to sustainable energy practices.

The event was inaugurated by Mr. Abhishek Singh, IAS, Secretary (Power), Government of Tripura, who emphasized the state’s commitment to promoting sustainable energy practices. In his address, Mr. Singh highlighted Tripura’s long-term vision to enhance energy efficiency, reduce consumption, and improve grid reliability. He stated, “Tripura is committed to leading the way in energy efficiency, and these DSM measures will play a pivotal role in ensuring a sustainable future for our state. By encouraging consumers to adopt energy-efficient appliances and practices, we are not only reducing demand but also securing a cleaner, greener future for Tripura.” Mr. Biswajit Basu, Managing Director of TSECL, reinforced this vision, highlighting the critical role energy-efficient practices play in managing demand and advancing the state’s broader environmental objectives.

  • Mr. Kanak Lal Das, AGM (DP&C), TSECL
  • Mr. Pradeep Kumar, Advisor, GreenTree Global
  • Dr. C. S. Azad, Team Lead for the North East zone

The DSM measures, designed to optimize energy consumption across residential and commercial sectors, include a range of initiatives that will significantly contribute to the state's energy conservation goals. As part of the program, a detailed demonstration of the Home Energy Management System (HEMS) was conducted, showcasing how smart technologies can be leveraged to manage energy usage efficiently, particularly for air conditioning loads. The system enables real-time energy monitoring and control through smart plugs, offering consumers greater control over their electricity consumption.

Showcasing Energy-Efficient Technologies

During the event, leading vendors such as Havells, Halonix, and KSB unveiled their latest energy-efficient products, including BLDC fans, energy-efficient pumps, and home appliances. These innovations, which are expected to make substantial contributions to the state’s DSM targets, were presented during a technical session where original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and ESCOs like Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) engaged in discussions on the latest advancements in energy-saving technologies.

The event concluded with an interactive session where participants were invited to provide feedback and ask questions, fostering a constructive exchange of ideas on the challenges and opportunities associated with DSM implementation in Tripura. This open dialogue allowed stakeholders to share valuable insights, further reinforcing the collaborative nature of the initiative.

A Milestone for Tripura and GreenTree Global

GreenTree Global, a key partner in this initiative, played an instrumental role in facilitating these discussions. The event marked a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to implement effective DSM strategies within DISCOMs. Their proactive involvement in driving these conversations emphasizes their commitment to positive transformation and fostering a culture of sustainability across both commercial and industrial sectors. This collaboration highlights GreenTree Global’s dedication to empowering stakeholders through knowledge-sharing and practical solutions that will shape a more energy-efficient future for Tripura.

This successful launch event marks the beginning of Tripura’s journey toward a more energy-efficient and sustainable future, with ongoing collaboration between the government, private sector, and civil society. With DSM measures now firmly in place, Tripura is well-positioned to make significant strides in energy efficiency, setting a strong example for other states to follow in the pursuit of sustainable energy practices.
