“... greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it. _ Robert Swan”
Corporate sustainability is a growing concern among investors who seek both economic and social benefit. MNC's and reformed companies in India have adopted green initiatives that not only bring recognition to the nation but also retrace the negative carbon footprint caused by them.
Consummate Engineering Services Private Limited (CESPL) founded in the year of 1988, is a leading MEP Consultancy firm with more than 30 years of expertise in providing building engineering services to all types of building and township projects. By acquiring LEED India Platinum Award through the timely advice and guidance of GreenTree Global in 2016, the company opted to go green.
In sharing the same space in CESPL, GreenTree Global has far more fond memories of the year it spent in CESPL and would like to share with you those key characteristics that make CESPL unlike any other corporate building.
LEED India CS measures taken by CESPL are…
SUSTAINABLE SITES
In order to consider any site as a sustainable under the LEED India CS, the site have to ensure certain parameters fulfilled such as
• Control of erosion and sedimentation is achieved through proper site barricading, material storage, designed landscaping, paved areas, and challans for the receipt of top soil for the project site.
• The New Okhla Industrial Development Authority approved the site because it touches no greenfield. Further the site features at least 10 amenities within a 1km radius.
• The company has already implemented charging points at its headquarters which would account for 3 percent of the total parking capacity for electric vehicles, which would cover at least 9 electric vehicles.
• The desilting chambers channel the rainwater to the recharge pit. Overflow water from the site is diverted to a green belt located adjacent to the site boundary, where storm water is filtered and recharged before leaving the site.
• The office ensures the mitigation of Heat Island Effect through covering 100% roof by high Solar Reflective Index (SRI) paints.
• A diffused lighting system and lighting systems with low light pollution levels (LPD) are used to control the external and internal light pollution.
• CESPL has provided tenants with a Tenant Design and Construction Guide which will ensure that the sustainable features undertaken by the company will be followed through.
WATER EFFICIENCY
• In order to achieve high water efficiency, various measures are taken: 100% of the water used for landscaping is recycled. The VRV system allowed the HVAC system to use 50% less portable water. Moreover, water is saved by using water-efficient fixtures.
ENERGY AND ATMOSPHERE
• The HVAC system uses refrigerants that are non-CFC and Non- HCFC, for all the HVAC applications in the project.
• The project achieves a 26% reduction in energy costs over the ASHRAE base case due to the inclusion of DGU, XPS insulation, thermacol insulation and VRV system.
• Moreover, the building is equipped with a metering system for space cooling, internal lighting, and equipment for STP including tenant sub-metering.
WASTE MANAGMENT
• Color-coded bins are provided for different types of waste. Ensured furniture and wall partitions were made from refurbished, repurposed and recycled materials. Also diverted 75% of waste from being sent to the landfill.
INDOOR ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY
• IAQ performance has been maintained with a proper ventilation system, fresh air schematic, and technical specifications for the HRV.
• There is a designated smoking area in the office premises, which is at least 20 feet from any general occupied spaces.
Salutations
Sustainability encompasses the entire supply chain of a business, requiring accountability from the primary level, through the suppliers, all the way to the retailers. If producing something sustainably becomes a competitive edge for supplying multinational corporations, it would become a huge jump for India toward its Net Zero Goal.
